Biografia
In my work I explore cultural identity and sexuality through images of perverse yet innocent dolls. Taking cute and cuddly ready-mades and turning them into fetishistic objects, I construct my work on the intensity of coexistence of opposite extremes and remain open to a multiplicity of interpretations.
The practice of disassembling the familiar and then gathering together disparate items has always captivated me. I continually investigate the new relationships and possible meanings that can surface when things are assembled and juxtaposed. I often reuse and evolve images and symbols, which serve as a visual vocabulary to develop a personal mythology.
Besides visual alterations, each doll requires electronic modifications as well. At the end each doll becomes one of a kind robotic creature, which starts by some kind of interaction with a viewer. In my most recent works I have been working on stages, which take a form of female figure with an orchestrated interactive performances of the dolls happening on a stage inside figure’s belly.
Video is another important aspect of my work. In my videos dolls become actors and develop an involved, often surreal narrative.
