My work involves painting and drawing portraits of 'figurative situations' that blend both realistic and abstract elements.I am interested in experimenting with composition, color, and paint application to elicit an emotional response from the viewer.The portraits and figurative scenes I construct serve as a vehicle of expression for aspects of the human condition, such as isolation,fragmentation, and disorientation.With an idea in mind, I often start a painting in reference to a set of photographic sources. Using photos as a point of departure, I then will often work and rework a painting, while letting happy accidents trickle in.The result I aim for is using the paint medium to give my figures an immediate presence that goes beyond the photos documentation of that individual. ...
