Nic Plowman’s work explores themes of mortality, fear, triumph and masculinity; works that are often profoundly personal, their aesthetic potency rooted in very real life/death experiences. Plowman was born with a congenital heart condition and has had two lots of open heart surgery. He also survived a major fall in 2009 and has used these experiences to inform his work. Plowman sees his art-making in terms of crucifixion, self-dissection and therapy: he describes art as both symptom and remedy.
