Biografia
Predominantly a painter, Kathryn has exhibited nationally and internationally.
Her images are taken from women’s bodies, particularly marks on the body such as wrinkles, tattoos, a scar or a birthmark. Prints are taken directly from the body, sometimes the work relies on memory. Recent work investigates the mind/body link.
Painterly devices contribute to the production of alternative readings, devices such as colour, fragmentation, use of scale, and surface finish. Colours are muted and the image continues out of the frame. Magnification speaks of intense scrutiny and speaks of a language of closeness and interiority exploring the insufficient representation of the female body. The painted surface is often made using dry brush technique which bears few signs of authorship.
