Hello! My name is Kate Shebanova, Currently I am working on my own noncommercial curatorial projects. Although I have worked for different organizations in Moscow, the most challenging contemporary project I have worked on to date, was working for the Personal Structures – collateral event of the 54th Venice Biennale this summer. That project demanded a high level of concentration and self-confidence, communication skills and professional attitude. And also inspired me much.
My interest in art became apparent very early. While in primary school I began attending fine art classes, working with a professional artist in his studio. Studying with him for four years I learned about colors, techniques and the importance of following your curiosity in your artistic activities. After that, I attended university to focus on my major “History of art”, graduating with my thesis “Land art - attempt to stop commercialization of art world”. After university I first After university I first worked as a volunteer, and then transitioned to a range of different positions in the arts. Working to gain hands on experience and understand all elements of an exhibition or event’s organizational process I have learned an important thing- there are no unimportant parts of the process. I have worked as a project manager responsible for logistics, as well as a public relation manager, coordinator, assistant, and event manager. After these diverse experiences, I have gained an understanding of process and a confidence to begin moving towards organizing my own curatorial projects.
