Biografia
My art focuses on the landscape and man’s interaction with his environment. I do not depict the landscape as a whole but rather as fractured pieces that fit together, much like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Rather than painting representationally, my color choices are always based on emotion and intuition, the idea being a reminder to the observer of the many ways that man has modified his landscapes. Geometric shapes feature prominently in my work. These shapes and their edges are exaggerated to illustrate the artificial components of even the most natural of landscapes.
My paintings begin with a drawing, usually applied straight to the canvas using a water-soluble crayon. I apply paint in layers, often in quick succession, to establish a complexity of color and a sense of rhythm. In the process, I often black out large parts of the canvas to begin building anew.
