Biografia

Allow me to introduce you to Michael Nelson! Michael is an incredibly dynamic artist with an intriguing story

He has been photographing for 30 years, had the big commercial studio where he photographed everything from paint buckets to Grammy winning singers. He later moved out of the studio, bought a huge grip trailer - a la the movie industry - and now takes my gear wherever he wants to shoot, mostly between Georgia and the Chesapeake Bay. The man is an absolute master at light: it is intuitive to him, like a second nature. Headlights, streetlights, candlelight, strobe lights, tungsten lights, all of the above - it works.

During his early photographic life, he was also a firefighter/EMT; he delivered babies, ran into burning buildings, had people die in his arms, breathed life back into people, flew planes, scuba dived, took a sailboat to the Caribbean for a month, drove a big rig, and taught himself photography in his spare time. He married an incredible woman who became his business partner/producer; survived cancer, but still kept his love for photography.

Plain and simple, this man does not want to waste his life, and has dedicated himself to creating simply outstanding images. Michael is an absolute master in regards to creating figure studies and images full of glowing, lush light. In his latest work, he explores the concept of modernity, femininity, romance, and the changing course of photography. Borrowing tender, yet awkward poses from artists such as Rene Dijkstra, and employing lighting more familiar to old master painters, Michael’s photographs are a story that erases cliché. Michael’s only fear is mediocrity, and his approach to life and work is the same — full of humor, spontaneity, and a lot of passion.
