Biografia

Eser Selen received her BFA (1997), MFA (1999) at Bilkent University, Turkey, MA (2002) and PhD (2010) in Performance Studies at New York University, US. She is a visual artist whose works keep regularly encompassing performance, sound, and video in which the ideas of body and space become entangled with one another. She attempts to question the body’s conditions of existence and its traces, either in terms of its spatial limits or in the condition of the body as a space. Her works have always been about the transitivity between the body and spatial limits, as her performances display the body that has just come into existence in space. She has exhibited and performed in Europe, the United States and the Middle East. Selen has performed at Art Dubai (2013), ARCAmadrid (2013), CerModern, Ankara (2011) had solo exhibitions at Aksanat, Istanbul (2005), Kasa Gallery, Istanbul (1999). Her work has been included in the Triennale Bovisa Milan; in museums and galleries such as Contemporary Art Center, Kasa Gallery, Istanbul; Ram Gallery, Rotterdam. Her research interests include feminisms, performance studies, contemporary art and communication design. Her publications appeared in such journals as Gender Place and Culture, Women & Performance and International Journal of the Humanities and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Communication Design Department at Kadir Has University, Turkey.
