Biografia

A native Norwegian residing in the UK, I blend a sensuous yet stark painting-technique inspired by the Caravaggisti and the Spanish Tenebrists with the darkly poetic traditions of the North. This synthesis of elements creates a somewhat haunting atmosphere which is a reminiscent factor in my work.

My chosen subject matters are mainly still frames appropriated from films by directors who themselves are inspired by painters, hence completing the cycle and moving forth the wheel of art-historical evolution which I feel privileged to be a part of.

I believe there is a fascinating quality to motion-frames that captures and mirrors the twilight of existence and non-existence in a specific way which cannot be found by means of composed still photography or through the vividness of real-life observation. As an artist I seek to explore, evoke and to express this quality which ultimately reaches beyond film and into the unknown.

July 2012:

Producing new work for forthcoming exhibitons.

Aside from the aesthetic credentials of my creative endeavours and the great personal challenge to combine techniques of artists such as Caravaggio, Velazquez and Vermeer along with my own ones,- the conceptual aims apparent in most of my current work and ideas is to question the contemporary importance of iconic subject matters, as many of them convey emotional and human values that cannot be restricted into specific art-historical eras. Also I seek to establish a paradox between nostalgia and contemporary relevance, and to bring forth a debate about this theme.
