Biografia
Born in 1987 in MS, Brazil, Omaya Salman is a Palestinian and Brazilian artist who do performance, video, installation, photography, sculpture, drawing and collage. She is interested in the relation between art and politics as a mix between reality and fiction.
Known as a body makeup artist who explore the idea between reality and illusion by building fiction upon reality and changing the purposes of objects, in a very realistic presentation, so often as a performative acts which interact with positions of power and powerlessness.
After two years studying psychology minor sociology at Birzeit University in Palestine, she has been selected to do her BA degree in Contemporary Visual art as a scholarship at the International Academy of Art in Ramallah-Palestine. During four years in this school she had the privilege and the possibility to participate in biennial, exhibitions and exchanges over few months in other schools of art and art centers. In 2009 in the National Academy of Art KHIO in Oslo, and 2010 in Saint Martin School of art in London. After her BA In 2011 she obtained the diploma "DNSAP" in fine art at the Higher Institute of Arts Toulouse in 2014.
She is currently organizing "Open Territory Projects" which it's an art project that proposes avalable space, outdoor or indoor, as a space for creative contemporary art & dance. The project is taking place in Toulouse/France from November 2014-November 2015.
She has also held a solo exhibitions, as "AIR CLASH" in 2009 at Bable Gallery in Trondheim/Norway.
Also her performance "IS IT A SCAR OR A BEAURY" in 2010 at Byam Show in London. Furthermore "ONE DAY, INSECT WILL EAT IT" in 2012 at Karlin Studio in Prague/Czech Republic.
Likewise "WITOWOT" project (What Is The Opposite word Of Terrorist ) in 2013 at La Città dell Utopia in Rome/Italy.
She participated in a number of local and international shows and festivals Like "The Stitch Project Northern Norway/Sweden tour-2014" in Norway/Sweden/Finland. "The truth is concrete, Graz Art Marathon-2013" in Graz/Austria. "THE BIENNALE OF YOUNG ARTIST-2011" in Thessaloniki/Greece. "ETERNAL TOUR-2010" in Ramallah/Palestine. "STORAS ART FESTIVAL-2010" in Storas/Norway. "Biennal of the Young artist-2009" in Macedonie. And "IL Video, Un Ponte SUL MEDITERRANEO-2009" in Torino/Italy.
In addition Omaya participated in several art residencies including: "Le Channel", Scène Nationale de Calais-2015 in France. "Felleslageret"-2014 in Melbu/Norway. "Città dell 'Utopia"-2013, Rome/Italy. At "Futura Center" for Contemporary Art-2012 in Prague/Czech Republic. And "Lademoen kunstnerverksteder"-2009 in Trondheim/ Norway.
She is also working as a special effect Make up Artist for films and theatre since 2009.
