‘Without nonsense there can be no sense’
My work is a creative exploration to find, understand and enhance the unique properties of material. Ten thousand, three hundred and twenty six pages of coloured shredded paper bombard one another, finding form and structure inside. A formation of three hundred and two ‘pocks’ surround this mass. Within each an object has been given its own space in which to exist. Embedded, encapsulated and thus preserved. At first the work may appear vast and imposing, on closer inspection the curious tactile and fragility of each individual component is apparent. The combinations of text, image and colour fragments within the paper shredding reflect and co ordinate with the surrounding pocks, playfully and poetically creating conversations with the space. It changes space into a place proposed for time to be spent in. The work manifests itself as random ordering amongst chaos. It deals with colour/texture/recycling/media/massculture/sentimentality/nostalgia/longing/yearning for the lost.
Recollected or Recollected?-
‘Waste not- Want not’ could be an ongoing title to my artistic practice, recycling has always been an underpinning reference
