WELCOME TO FLAXART STUDIOS

Flaxart is an artist-run organisation which was founded in 1989 by a group of recent graduates seeking space to make large-scale sculpture and installation artworks. We are funded by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to support and promote emerging and established contemporary visual artists from Belfast and beyond, through affordable artist-run studios, to sustain and develop local, regional and international initiatives and to promote research and community outreach projects.

STUDIO HOLDERS:

Alastair MacLennan, Barbara Freeman, Aisling O’Beirn, Daniel Jewesbury, Martin Boyle, Eleanor Phillips, Tony Hill, Joanna Karolini, Fiona Larkin, Una Walker, Leo Devlin, Lisa Malone, Mike Hogg, Philip Napier, Aideen Doran, Fionnuala Doran and Deirdre McKenna. Flaxart also provides office space for Bbeyond, an organisation dedicated to the promotion of performance art. www.bbeyondperformance.org

GRADUATE ARTISTS:

Helena Hamilton (BA 2009) and Robert Anderson (MFA 2009) are on the current 12 month gradating artist programme at Flax (1 October 2009 until 30 September 2010)
