Biografia
Through the use of industrial and organic materials, I create site-specific sculptures that examine nature as a force to be emulated, harnessed and re-interpreted. The production of each piece begins with intuitive analysis followed by a more conscious method of physical extraction or refinement, from which I am able to arrive at the finished product. In the final stages of creating each piece, I let it speak to me, allowing for autosuggestion to occur through the direct manipulation of materials.
My current work is a concerted effort to merge narrative and ecology. It is very much an ongoing process, which seeks to find that balance between man and nature both philosophically, and materially speaking. Always interested in finding formulas for sustainability, I am also researching how my practice might be applied to health science and therapy.
In my work, nothing is outsourced. Appropriation never outweighs the manipulation or transfiguration of materials and while I am not closed to colloborating with other artists through workshops or team efforts, I am generally speaking, the sole author of each piece made. This is key to imbuing my work with a life of it’s own at a scale that is accessible, human and personal. The artwork in this selection represents a small selection of my practice, which encompasses both sited projects and work that has been presented in galleries.
