FLOATING PARK
The proposed ‘Floating Park’ has a potential to become one of the Newham Council aspirations and priorities to support wildlife in the area.
The local focus which driven the project is capable of improving social cohesion, and developing networks and other community benefits through providing outdoor activity and education opportunities involving local schools and youth centres as well as encouraging wildlife through formal language such as existing and proposed ground treatments, living walls as well as brown roofs.
As a result of the specific site location - former entrance (8.5m deep) from the river to the docks, now infilled, the proposed buildings would sit on the floating concrete rafts and the timber construction of new structures would have to allow a slight movement caused by sinking of the foundations.
