Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art is pleased to present “[Living Shrouds]”an exhibition of
portraits in new media by Milan-based Davide Coltro, in his second solo show at the gallery.
The show will feature two components: a series of electronic modules, each containing
several hundred digital images of human faces displayed in succession on digital screens,
together with a selection of 100 of these portraits in print form, encased in plastic. The
portraits are executed in digital media, using a proprietary process of chromatic kineticism.
The overall effect is to illuminate the physical, psychological and sociological forces that
work simultaneously to constrain and yet ultimately give shape and meaning to each human
individual. As with past shows, Coltro successfully marries the very latest advances in digital
technology with classical artistic themes to produce works that exude an uncannily quiet
aesthetic power.
Coltro works has exhibited widely throughout Europe and in China, as well as with Wolfe
Contemporary in San Francisco. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Milan, the Palazzo Forti, Verona, and the Young Museum, Mantova.
