Of this research, which dates back to 1996/97 and resumed in the early 2000s, the artist writes:
“The works in ‘Apnea’ are born from a powerful intuition: the inability to scream underwater, a metaphorical silence that reflects the silent and often invisible self-destruction that human beings can face. The figures, initially clear and perfect in their glamorous poses, gradually blur, their outlines dissolving in explosions of vibrant color, creating an almost dreamlike effect. This chromatic fog does not hide but reveals: not the perfection of form, but the complexity and fragility of existence. ‘Apnea’ is not just an aesthetic exploration, but a profound reflection on vulnerability and transformation… It is an invitation to look beyond the surface, to recognize the beauty in mutation and fragility, even when this manifests as a drift toward self-destruction.”
